The Daily Californian
I wrote for the Daily Californian for 2 years; I started as an Opinion Columnist then transferred to the creative writing department called The Weekender. I was also the Editor of The Weekender during my last semester of college and I have loved working for this newspaper. Find below some of my favorite pieces that I wrote for the Daily Cal.

An experimental piece written in the form of a letter addressed to my mother on her birthday, exploring our relationship over the years.
An ode to all that I will not have time for
Reflecting on (1) how AI is changing the role and significance of writers in society and (2) how AI’s infinite capacity to store information highlights the many limitations caused by our mortality.
A personal essay I wrote following the two major earthquakes that destroyed cities across Syria and Turkey—my home. Reflecting on the difficulties of being away from home during such a difficult time.
Down the rabbit hole: Looking into academic research in the biological sciences
An interview-based feature I wrote about biology research in academia and the industry.
A prose poem about loss
I hope this message finds you well

The brick building of existential dread
A short story about unhappy people.
A poem written in an experimental form depicting a mother and her child feeding ducks by a pond.
A short story about a spider and a girl alone in a room. Oops.
Reflecting on my many eye problems following a visit to the eye doctor.
An experimental piece that mixes a recipe with reflections on the act of baking.
The following two pieces were published as a part of my opinion column called “A Modern Feminist?” where I wrote about my understanding of modern day feminism as a Turkish woman living in the US.
This one’s for the “good guys”
A call-to-action about men’s involvement in the feminist movement, reflections on the #NotAllMen movement.
A column about comedy that targets women and why I find laughter to be political.
